Fortnite Playgrounds Update v4.5 Has Broken The Game

The latest update for Fortnite was pushed out by Epic Games earlier this morning, but apparently it has broken the game for many players and the new features such as the new Playground Mode has been disabled for the time being.

Epic says that they are working on an “Emergency Patch” for the game that will try to fix the stability and performance issues that many Fortnite players are currently facing.  They have not issued a time when to expect the problems to be fixed and the Playgrounds LTM to return.

Had it gone smoothly, update 4.5 should have had a lot for Fortnite fans to be excited about.  Dual Pistols were the newest weapon added to the game, and the (currently broken) Playground mode should have allowed three friends to play by themselves on their own private island.  Alongside these major features, a host of other changes have been made to the game, including new map markers, fireworks from grenade launchers, and the conclusion of Blockbuster in Save The World.

Right now it’s unclear how long it’s going to take Epic Games to fix Fortnite: Battle Royale’s problems after the latest patch.  Regardless of the issues, there are still plenty of people playing and watching the game.  Around 300,000 people are currently watching the game being played on Twitch — or just another Wednesday afternoon.

Update:  Epic has given status updates on issues affecting Fortnite: Battle Royale players.  The developers say that the PC version has received a patch to address the stability and performance issues, which they say was caused by a memory leak introduced in the 4.5 update.  If you’ve not updated yet, you’ll be prompted to do another update upon trying to use matchmaking features.

As for the Playground Mode, Epic says that the mode will remain closed for today and that they have multiple teams trying to fix the problems with the new feature.
