Star Wars news is pretty much everywhere this weekend as the Star Wars Celebration is being held. Before the event even kicked off, one trailer for Star Wars Battlefront 2 leaked that we thought might be the one that would be shown at the show today. However, the trailer released today ended up being longer and full of many more story details.
The first full official trailer for Star Wars Battlefront 2 clocks in at 2:18 and the first minute and a half focuses on the single player campaign. As we assumed from the short bit shown in the leaked trailer, the protagonist will be an Imperial soldier. Even though she isn’t named in the trailer, the YouTube description says she is an elite Stormtrooper named Iden.
The trailer starts with her narrating that she’s been waiting 30 years for this and that she still remembers her last orders, which seem to mean from Emperor Palpatine before his demise. Like before, we see her squad come to Endor to help fight against the Rebels in a time coinciding with near the end of Return of the Jedi.
Soon after landing on Endor, they witness the Death Star blow up, which our protagonist declares as impossible before saying that they must avenge their emperor. We then hear further narration from the Emperor, as we see TIE Fighters chasing the Millennium Falcon. We even see this nameless protagonist confront Luke in a time that appears to be not long after the end of Return of the Jedi.
Since the first narration from her seems to be from around the time of The Force Awakens, coming 30 years after the death of Palpatine, it will be interesting to see if the story spans that far or if the main story stays in the past. Either way, this definitely sounds like an intriguing campaign as it will allow us to take control of the Empire instead.
The remainder of the trailer focuses on the multiplayer, which isn’t really anything different than from the leaked trailer. The heroes and villains in multiplayer will span the different eras, including Darth Maul, Yoda, Rey, and Kylo Ren.
In addition, the pre-order bonuses that were teased in the leaked version are confirmed here as skins for both Rey and Kylo Ren from The Last Jedi, which is perfect timing with that moving hitting not long after the release of Star Wars Battlefront 2 on November 17 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. In the meantime though, make sure to check out the trailer below.
