The UK retailer GAME is asking people to actually pay money to demo trial the PlayStation VR headset. The trial periods last between 10 to 30 minutes.
GAME Westwood tweeted this out: “Not only do we have our in store #PSVR experience starting up today we also have stock available! £5 for 10 minutes, £15 for 30 mins. If you decide on picking up a #PSVR after having a little play with us we’ll refund your VR experience cost. Which is nice. S’nice.”
One twitter user by the name of Darren #Metroid30 is not happy about it. He tweeted out this message: “I discourage everyone from supporting this. As much as I love GAME and admire Sony, this is wrong. You should not have to pay to play #PSVR.”
“I hope this ‘offer’ is quickly pulled, and anyone who decided it was a good idea, should go and get a CASH refund. The money is apparently to fund one to one customer care with whoever is using it, and its approved by Sony. Refunded if you buy one. I still completely disagree with it. You shouldn’t have to pay for something for the retailer and company to get the point across.”
Gaming writer for Crave, Paul Tamburro, also tweeted out his opinion that this practice shouldn’t happen. Paying that kind of money to trial a product in-store is very uncommon.
Have you ever had to pay to play something at a retailer before? I don’t think I’ve ever heard of this happening. I’ve played many several hardware devices in-store and never had to pay for it.
Update: Some other GAME UK retailers have tweeted out the same offer. GAME Kendal said: “PSVR Pay-to-Play in-store over this weekend. Only £5 for 10 mins or £15 for 30 minutes!”
GAME Bromley said: “Thinking about purchasing #PSVR ? Come and try it in store today! £5 for 10 minutes or £15 for 30 minutes!” There are actually a lot of replies with this retailer. A lot of people are unhappy getting charged to play on the device for a short amount of time in-store.
