Gears of War 4 is about to get its biggest update ever. The Gears of War 4 Horde Update adds a ton of new stuff, and reconfigures the online multiplayer to make for a better experience across all platforms. Xbox One and Windows 10 crossplay expands in this update, while those who don’t have the game are getting a free chance to try it out.
Crossplay isn’t totally new for GoW4. The feature was added awhile back, but only in limited game modes and playlists. Now it is being expanded all the way into Ranked play though, removing almost all barriers to finding other players whether your on Xbox One or Windows 10. If you’re worried that playing against PC players will put you at a disadvantage then you can easily turn the feature off to exclude them from your game.
The other big part of this update is a brand new game trial. “Beginning on June 9th and running until June 15th, we’re offering a limited time trial version of Gears of War 4 to download for free,” says the announcement.
“This full game trial will offer 10 hours of free play in Gears of War 4, including the entire first Act of the Campaign plus full – yes, full! – access to the Horde and Versus experiences. That means you can try out Rise of the Horde on top of all the great content that exists in Gears of War 4 today! And, if you don’t complete the Trial during it’s availability period, you can still play to your 10 hour time limit anytime afterwards.”
But this is the biggest Gears of War 4 update ever, so that still isn’t all that it will do. New skills, difficulty settings, maps, and even Achievements are being added to the game. You can check out more in the link above, or in the video below.
