The Game Awards 2015 were held almost two weeks ago and one of the most talked about moments was that of Hideo Kojima not showing up. However, this wasn’t of his own volition, but rather a decision entirely by Konami, which the man behind the awards, Geoff Keighley, spoke about a little more over the weekend.

Certainly one of the most controversial parts of the show came when Keighley brought up Kojima and said that Konami banned him from attending the show due to him still being under contract technically until the end of the year.

This news was incredibly disappointing for any fan of Metal Gear Solid and Kojima, of which Keighley certainly is. In fact, Keighley has now shed a little more light on that moment during an AMA on Reddit from over the weekend.

Prior to the show, Keighley had said he talked with Kojima and expressed hope that he would show up, but evidently he found out the news prior to the show that he was banned from coming. However, Keighley has now said that moment wasn’t rehearsed at all and he felt it was just something that had to be said.

“I wanted him to know that we were thinking of him. I was trying to do all I could to make him feel connected to the show, even if he couldn’t be with us physically in LA. Heartbreaking situation.”

You can really tell that Keighley was disappointed by Kojima not being able to show up due to their close relationship, which led to this moment that fans are really glad he took the chance to talk bad of Konami on this situation.
