Gravity Rush 2 Leads Japanese Sales; Xbox One Hits Record Low

Gravity Rush 2 entered the charts as the best selling game in Japan last week, as Media Create reveals. The PlayStation 4 exclusive slightly improved on the expectations and was able to sell nearly double what the original entry did in 2012 when it was released for PSVita. On the console charts PlayStation 4 leads in a week when all hardware numbers have gone down, and in this case that means a new all-time low for Xbox One.

The week had some interesting releases even if they didn’t bring in big numbers. Sony Japan’s Gravity Rush 2 (74.361), despite not smashing the charts, did sell a healthy amount of copies, even surpassing the sum of the first week sales of the original Gravity Rush for PSVita (38.347) and the Remastered version for PS4 (24.918).

This good result is very welcome considering the disappointing launch the game had in the United Kingdom, where it couldn’t reach the top10 of the week.

Down in the software list, Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World for 3DS (39.555), slightly improved on the sales of the original release for Wii U (31.000). Valkyria Revolution (56.416 combined) disappoints with numbers that fall below any entry of the Valkyria Chronicles series aside of the remastered version of the original for PS4 (24.156). The reasons for this bad result seem to be the fact that this new title goes well beyond the spin off definition to offer a completely different game of the rest of the series in terms of story and setting.

In the hardware chart most consoles are slightly down from last week with PlayStation 4 (33.376) leading the group, followed by 3DS (26.057), and PSVita (11.521). Wii U’s numbers (794) go below the 1000 mark following the Nintendo Switch presentation, and Xbox One goes even lower than it has ever been, selling only 35 consoles in the whole week. Microsoft’s console has sold 75.874 consoles up to this day in Japan, which is barely higher than the launch sales of Xbox 360 (62.135 in two days).
