Detective Pikachu might be one of the strangest upcoming releases on any Nintendo platform. Featuring a speaking role for the ever popular Pokemon, the game represents a very unique spinoff. Until today we’ve only seen Japanese trailers for the game, so fans wondered what the English voice might sound like. With a new trailer we now know, along with the fact that a new Detective Pikachu amiibo is coming as well.
It’s a bit surprising that this didn’t show up in the Nintendo Direct yesterday. That presentation had a lot of new Switch games announced, but lacked any amiibo news, making some fans nervous. Today helped, as this is the first new amiibo announcement in some time, but fans would have went crazy for this during the Direct.
The amiibo itself looks really cool, featuring Pikachu in his new detective’s hat and a unique base that looks like a map of the city. The whole thing is oversized as well, so this will be a definite addition to my personal amiibo collection.
Detective Pikachu arrives for Nintendo 3DS on March 23rd, in the US and Europe. It is already available in Japan.
