According to rumors, Activision is reportedly working on a new, more realistic Guitar Hero game set to release shortly.  While Guitar Hero hasn’t seen a release in the series since Warriors of Rock in 2010, sources of Kotaku UK claim that Activision will announce the new game at E3 2015 and release it later this year.

The report also alleges that the new Guitar Hero game will be a departure from the cartoonish style that series has had in the past, and things like crowds and performers will be more realistic.

With the new game, Activision will also release new guitar peripherals, and the new Guitar Hero is slated to arrive on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

While Activision themselves have not confirmed or denied the news at this point, fans of the genre have been clamoring for a return from either Rock Band or Guitar Hero in recent months.  Rumors recently surfaced about Harmonix and a return to the popular Rock Band games.

EA and Activision utterly saturated the the market with Guitar Hero and Rock Band games in the previous generation.  Activision more aggressively released game after game to capitalize on the bubble.   It burst in 2011, Warriors of Rock got some of the lowest review scores for the series, signaling that people likely were becoming tired with them.

We’ll have to wait and see if these rumors hold true.  E3 2015 is about three and a half months away.
