Halo Wars was a pretty successful RTS game on the Xbox 360. It not only introduced one of the best control schemes found for the genre on consoles, but it also introduced some pretty compelling online multiplayer gameplay with its Covenant vs. UNSC match-ups across the 1v1 2v2 and 3v3 varieties.
The game definitely had a cult following, and recently, Microsoft Studios Head Phil Spencer, spoke briefly about his love for console RTS. Does this mean that Halo Wars 2 is coming to Xbox One? It certainly sounds like a possibility.
Unfortunately, 2009 saw the closure of Ensemble Studios, creators of Halo Wars and the Age of Empires game series.
But when Spencer was posed the question about a new Age of Empires on the Xbox One, he said: I’m a fan of console RTS StarCraft64, Halo Wars… Control works, been proven. Smartglass could help as well.”
Spencer’s been talking a lot about new IP, fostering top tier talent at Microsoft Studios, and incoming announcements for the Xbox One recently. While he hasn’t made any official reveals, he’s certainly gotten the Xbox One community’s attention, as fans are asking for all types of new experiences — that includes a follow-up to 2009’s Halo Wars.
