Halo Wars, an RTS title that originally launched back on the Xbox 360 in 2009 is finally coming to backwards compatibility for the Xbox One. Â Major Nelson recently made the announcement via Twitter.
Larry Hyrb revealed, “Xbox One Preview Members: Halo Wars will be playable in PREVIEW via Back Compat later today (under reader to install).”
Despite launching all the way back in 2009, there’s still a strong community for the game. Â That’s probably attributable to the game being released as a Games with Gold title, but it was also a pretty damn good console RTS that allowed players to use iconic leader units from the Covenant and UNSC.
Checking during the writing of this post, the game was not already available, but apparently will be sometime today.
Microsoft has a follow-up to Halo Wars in the works with Halo Wars 2, which was announced last year to be a collaboration between 343 Industries and Creative Assembly.
Update: Those who have the digital version of Halo Wars and are enrolled in the Xbox One preview program should now be able to install the game via the “Ready to Install” section of Games & Apps. Â However, those with the disc-based version of the game are having troubles installing the game, despite a Quest on the preview dashboard that says they should be able to. Â You can see the quest in the image below:
Update 2: Â Disc-based versions of Halo Wars can also now be installed for preview members.
