The developers of Hawken are shutting down the servers for their first-person Mech combat game on Steam.  It’s only been three years since the game released, but apparently the developers are moving on to new things.  In a Facebook post to fans, the Hawken dev team says that they are shutting the servers down to “refocus our development efforts.”

The PC version of Hawken will be removed on January 2nd, 2018.  All of the downloadable and purchasable content for the game will also be unavailable starting today October 2nd, 2017.

“It’s been an incredibly rewarding experience working alongside such a dedicated PC player base,” reads a note from the developer.  “We look forward to creating more great games based on what we’ve learned.”

Hawken had a ton of buzz heading into its intial release as the premise of fast paced, first-person, Mech combat is a fascinating premise.  Despite its upbeat tone, the message does fall on a community that is somewhat baffled by the decision to shut down the servers completely without offering any other way to play game via LAN server.

There’s been no mention of the Hawken team shutting down the PlayStation or Xbox version of the game.
