In preparation for the upcoming release of Moero Chronicle on Steam, Idea Factory International is having a closed beta for the game lasting between June 16 and July 14 for interested fans.
For anyone hoping to get in on the beta, all you have to do is send Idea Factory International an email detailing the key components of your PC, such as its operating system, processor and graphics card. Of course, there are some prerequisites that applicants will have to meet even before they’re even eligible to participate, such as actually being in possession of a working PC with a reliable internet connection, being 18 or older and own an active Steam account.
This is IFI’s second call for the closed beta. The original one came earlier this week with a due date of June 16, but its likely many missed the announcement due to the excitement surrounding E3. As such, the company has opted to extend the deadline by a week, now making it June 23.
By using the information gathered from the closed beta, IFI is hoping to make the Steam release of Moero Chronicle go as smoothly as possible. However, there could be more at stake here than just the success of a single launch. IFI has been making a serious effort into porting many of its titles, mainly the Hyperdimension Neptunia series, to the PC, but the Genkai Tokki series (the series to which Moero Chronicle belongs to) is still relatively new to the PC realm. The first and only title from that series on the PC is Monster Monpiece despite there being four games in the series (five if you include the upcoming Castle Panzers)
This is significant because unlike Hyperdimension Neptunia, the only reliable way to get a Genkai Tokki game that most Western players can understand is to purchase an Asian version of the games for the PlayStation Vita from a special distributor, which means price markups. Unfortunately, even that may not be an option anymore because the company has stated it won’t be releasing any of its games in the West if they have to censor them (essentially eliminating the chances of seeing any Genkai Tokki titles on the Vita); meaning the only ways for Western audiences to have access to the other two games in the series, Moero Crystal (the direct sequel to Moero Chronicle which was initially slated to have English subtitles in the Asia Version) and Seven Pirates, for the foreseeable future is to hope for a PC release.
The success of Moero Chronicle on Steam doesn’t automatically ensure that future titles in the series will appear there, but it will at least let IFI know that fans are interested in playing their titles, even if they have to forego their PlayStation Vitas to do so.
That said, registration for the closed beta ends on June 23 and the actual game launches in Summer 2017.
