The Last of Us released about a year and a half ago to incredible critical acclaim, which led to an exceptional remaster earlier this year on PlayStation 4. While Naughty Dog has confirmed that a sequel is not coming anytime soon, if ever, we do know that a movie is in the works based on the movie. While talking about Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End with Game Informer in a video, The Last of Us director Neil Druckmann also gave a little bit of an update on the movie itself in a smaller accompanying video.
Within this interview, Druckmann revealed that he just had completed his second draft for the movie’s script. This is obviously a big step, but Druckmann also divulged a little more information as well that is quite important. He revealed that there are some big changes in the script, but that the movie will still be very “faithful” to the original game itself in tone and what the story is trying to say.
Changing some elements of the story is no huge surprise, as it would be impossible to translate the full game over to a two hour movie. Even then, adaptations typically turn out to be much better than straight translations, so this could be the recipe for one of the first critically acclaimed video game movies.
