When first reading this headline, one might think this story is from five years ago or so, but it actually took that long for Australia to get the true version of Left 4 Dead 2. Due to their prior MA15+ rating only, the game was censored to meet release requirements in the country when the game originally launched. With the R18+ rating available now, the Australian classification board has finally rated the uncensored version of Left 4 Dead 2.

While the official classification website listed this new rating for the game on August 29, 2014, the re-rating was officially confirmed by Valve, courtesy of a statement given to Kotaku Australia.

  • “We are delighted that the full version of Left 4 Dead 2 will be available to fans age 18+ in Australia,” he said. “We are making plans to deliver that version to those who have already purchased the game. We will announce more details on that soon.”

Left 4 Dead 2 was of course a very violent game, but there are far worse around there content wise. This decision is more important for the future of game ratings in the country than for Left 4 Dead 2 itself, as it sets a precedent for other similar games moving forward.
