Madden 17 releases in less than a month and with that release approaching, EA Sports is gradually releasing the top rated players at each position. We’ve already seen the top rookies and quarterbacks, so naturally it’s time to take a look at the top running backs.

While he may be having some trouble in real life due to a missed drug test that has led to a four game suspension being laid down, Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell is without question one of the best running backs in the league with his 94 OVR. His 99 carry rating makes him a near guarantee to not fumble, while also having a solid 71 catch rating from the RB position that can help make him a dual threat in the run and pass game.

There are many that could argue that Madden 17’s #2 running back should be #1, which is Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson with a 91 OVR. Peterson has been one of the best in the league at this position for years, putting perhaps his best performance a few years ago coming off an ACL tear. With a 83 stiff arm rating and an 88 stength rating, Peterson will not go down easily and will get you the yards you need.

The #3 player on this list is certainly a surprise for anyone that is just going off the start of last season, As Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin had seemingly regressed. However, a resurgence in 2016 has led to him getting a 90 OVR, with a 91 trucking stat that will make him bowl over defenders on the way to the end zone.

Just behind Martin is Kansas City Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles with an 89 OVR. His mix of a 91 speed with 92 spin move and 95 juke move make him dangerous in the open field, along with the very impressive 72 catch rating for a RB. The only concern with Charles is if he can stay healthy coming off an ACL tear early in the 2016 season.

The last player in the top five ranked running backs for Madden 17 might be a surprise to those that don’t really pay attention to the stats during the season, but new Houston Texans RB Lamar Miller has taken that spot with an 88 OVR. Miller is one of the fastest running backs in the league with his 93 speed ratings, which makes him very dangerous when paired with his juke move rating.
