EA have announced that Madden NFL 25 has amassed sales of more than one million units during it’s first week of sale which according to internal estimates would make it the best selling game of the month in North America during August.
EA explains, Â “Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the Madden NFL franchise continues to prove its popularity, with fans playing nearly 6 million hours of Madden NFL 25 in Week One, the equivalent of more than 600 consecutive years. Rivalries run deep as fans chose Seahawks vs. 49ers three times more than any other matchup. Fans took the competition to Madden Ultimate Team too, opening more than 3.3M packs, the most in any single week since Ultimate Team was introduced in Madden NFL 10. In addition, Saturday marked the highest day for net revenue in Madden Ultimate Team history”.

While Electronic Arts celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Madden franchise with the release of NFL 25, sales are down on the 1.65 million copies of NFL 13 sold in the same time period last year. Â Due the ever growing success of the micro-transaction based Madden Ultimate Team, profits are unlikely to suffer drastically from the lower number of copies sold, in fact the Saturday after release was described as “the best single day for revenue from that mode since EA introduced it in Madden NFL 10”
Madden NFL 25 has also been confirmed to be among the titles eligible for the $10 trade up offer should customers want to upgrade their copy when they make the jump to a next generation console later this year.
