Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna – The Golden Country is a prequel to the main story of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Taking place hundreds of years before Rex met Pyra, this expansion details how the Kingdom of Torna came to ruin and eventually how Pyra wound up in that sarcophagus Rex would eventually find.

Our main character this time around is Lora, a young driver who was saved from her terrible family by her blade: Jin. It looks like the two have already developed a strong friendship by the time the events of the game start to unfold, and it looks like their role in the greater Xenoblade Chronicles 2 story begins when they meet Mythra and her driver: Addam.

Just like in the main game, the villainous Malos is doing his best to destroy the world one Titan at a time. As Lora, players will be working with Jin and her friends as they try to keep him from destroying Torna. As the video above shows, doing so will not be neither easy nor straightforward. It looks like the situation quickly spirals out of control as they attempt to rise and meet Malos’ incredible power with an unstoppable power of their own. Based on Jin’s brief confrontation with Malos in the trailer, it look like not everyone will survive the clash in one piece.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna – The Golden Country is basically more Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but with new combat mechanics to go along with the new story. All characters now have their own Talent Arts to aid in battle, and players can now actively play as both Blades and Drivers. Hopefully this means we’ll get some giant mech gameplay this time.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna – The Golden Country releases for the Nintendo Switch on September 14 via the game’s expansion pass, but it can also be purchased as a stand alone game as of September 21.
