Mario Kart 8 on Wii U is a game considered by many to be one of the best installments in the long-running series, but it did come with one major flaw that held it back from perfection. While the racing itself was fantastic and featured great mechanics and courses, the game’s battle mode was seriously underwhelming due to there being no dedicated arenas for it as there were in the past.
However, with the release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Nintendo Switch on the horizon Nintendo has fixed the original game’s biggest issue, and the game has received a new trailer showing some of it off. There are 8 dedicated courses for this mode that feature the game modes Balloon Battle, Renegade Roundup, Bob-Omb Blast, Shine Thief and Coin Runners. This will be a huge improvement over the original release, and will make the game’s battle mode actually enjoyable now.
The trailer also touches on how the game features 48 tracks and over 40 racers, which is thanks to the inclusion of the DLC that the original game received post-launch. That game’s DLC added the likes of The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing characters to the mix, though all of that will be included with the launch of the new version on Switch.
The video also revealed that the game will have multiple controller configurations, allowing you to play with one Joy-Con on its side, two of them connected to the charging grip, with the pro controller or even with the new Joy-Con wheel peripheral that will launch the same day as the game does. Also, anyone who beats all of the game’s courses at 200cc will unlock Gold Mario, which is the fastest speed the game has to offer and one that was introduced to the series with Mario Kart 8.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will launch for Nintendo Switch on April 28th. Check out the new overview trailer below.
