Update: Nintendo has now officially announced this DLC and that it will be $7.99 each, or $11.99 if you buy both.

Original Story: Mario Kart 8 was easily one of the best games of 2014 so far and it appears that it will be getting even better now. According to the official Nintendo UK website, Mario Kart 8 will be getting a good bit of DLC across two packs coming this November and next May, including new characters, vehicles, and tracks.

According to the listing, we will be getting thee new characters, four new vehicles, and eight new tracks in each DLC pack, with perhaps the two most intriguing being Link and a pair of Animal Crossing characters along with what an F-Zero track. With Nintendo seemingly forgetting about F-Zero outside of Super Smash Bros., this is a great site to see, especially in glorious HD. The full listing from the Nintendo UK site can be seen below:

Each Add On Content pack will contain two new cups, each with four courses, which, in total, increases the number of available courses by 50 percent. The Add On Content packs include classics like Wario’s Gold Mine from Mario Kart Wii, as well as new courses, some taking place in the worlds of The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing. New vehicles will also arrive with each pack, including the Blue Falcon kart representing the F-Zero franchise in the first AOC pack.

Mario Kart 8 Pack 1 – Released: November 2014

Pack 1 includes:

  • 3 Characters: Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, Link
  • 4 Vehicles
  • 8 Courses

Mario Kart 8 Pack 2 – Released: May 2015

Pack 2 includes:

  • 3 Characters: Villager, Isabelle, Dry Bowser
  • 4 Vehicles
  • 8 Courses

As a bonus for purchasing both packs – as a bundle or separately – you can get eight different-coloured Yoshis and eight different-coloured Shy Guys that can be used right away.

The cost listed for each DLC pack is £7.00, so it shouldn’t cost too much when it eventually releases. With Super Smash Bros. around the corner and now this news, a new Nintendo Direct has to be coming soon enough where we can get the official announcements. A few screenshots from the DLC pack can be seen in the gallery above as well.
