With Fox owning the rights to the X-Men franchise in live action, Marvel chose to instead utilize the Inhumans as essentially their mutants through Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. An Inhumans movie was also announced as coming as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but after being delayed indefinitely, it appears Marvel has decided to go a different route.
As revealed in an official press release, Marvel’s The Inhumans will now be a new series in conjunction with ABC Studios that will premiere on ABC next fall. Not only that, but the two part premiere will get an exclusive run in IMAX theaters around the time of the series’ premiere as well.
You might would think that this is just going to be an offshoot of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., as that series already has Inhumans like Quake and more involved. However, it looks like Marvel is going all in on the Inhumans this time as this is said to follow “the never-before-told epic adventure of Black Bolt and the royal family.
According to other reports, The Inhumans will only run for eight episodes in this first season. This will almost be like Agent Carter’s first season, though it appears this will run concurrently with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. if it gets renewed, unless they decide to hold back on that show to premiere after The Inhumans next year or something.
