One of the PS4’s biggest exclusives just crossed a major threshold on its way to players’ anxiously awaiting hands. Marvel’s Spider-Man has gone gold says developer Insomniac Games. This means the game has completed its main development cycle, with the team shifting gears toward updates and patching that will hit after release.

“We are pleased to announce that Spider-Man has GONE GOLD for its worldwide release on September 7th. Thanks to PlayStation and Marvel Games for their support in the creation of this original Spider-Man adventure,” reads the tweet.

Marvel’s Spider-Man has been a huge hit every time it was shown off at E3 and other gaming shows. We checked it out earlier this year and were thoroughly impressed. The open world environments were especially intriguing in terms of their potential, as well as just how fun it was to web swing through New York.

Combat was also fun, with Dylan commenting that “There isn’t much else that you can ask for in an action game that isn’t provided in Spider-Man.” Fighting was fast, fluid, and unique in the feature set. Spidey’s various abilities were great to use and offered a ton of different strategies to take down nefarious foes.

Whether this will translate to a good final product or not is something we’ll find out soon. Marvel’s Spider-Man is set for release exclusively on PS4 on September 7th.
