While not its defining feature, the Mass Effect series is known for featuring sex scenes between the player’s character and a number of squadmates, and it looks like Mass Effect Andromeda is taking that to the next level.
Talking with fans on Twitter, Bioware general manager Aaryn Flynn confirmed not only that the game would feature full nudity, but also referred to the game as “totally softcore space porn.” Whether or not he’s joking is up in the air, but with the success of other games that feature nudity, like the Witcher series, at least the initial confirmation doesn’t seem too far-fetched.
Regardless, so far Mass Effect Andromeda does not have an ESRB rating, so we don’t know for sure what’s in it. Nudity would definitely be mentioned in the ESRB’s ruling, and developers using nudity must toe the line to make sure they don’t inadvertently push their game past the “M for Mature” rating into “Adults Only,” which would render the game impossible to sell by many major retailers. Prior entries in the series have been rated M.
Bioware seems to be having fun with the move, having also recently announced a Cards Against Humanity expansion that expressly pokes fun at just how much like James Bond that Commander Shepard could be. The limited edition expansion only includes 14 cards, which must be why it only costs $1 with free shipping.
The countdown to the release of Mass Effect Andromeda continues, with less than a month to go. Bioware has released the minimum PC specs needed to run the game, as well as more details on combat, and seems open to making versions of the game for the upcoming Scorpio as well as the Nintendo Switch.
Mass Effect Andromeda is set for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on March 21st. EA Access and Origin Access users can start playing five days earlier.
