If anyone is going to take the many facets of the PlayStation Vita and put them to good use, it’s going to be a first party developer. That’s exactly what Sony revealed at their GamesCom press briefing where Media Molecule took the stage to reveal Tear Away.
In the spirit of creativity, and their previous titles in the LittleBigPlanet franchise, the developer looks to have harnassed the power of the PS Vita for a paper based adventure called Tear Away. Tear Away was revealed as a buddy game where you’ll help a cute paper character named Iota.
Iota is a messenger from another dimension, the game is a journey of getting Iota out of the PS Vita and into the real world. Utilizing the PS Vita’s touch screen in the front, and touch pads in back, you’ll interact with the game world in ways that literally put you in the game. Interactive drum skins act as trampolines, allowing the demo to use the touch pad on the back of the Vita to interact with the world and help Iota navigate its terrain. Using the multi-touch features, you can simulate sticking your fingers through the Vita to help your friend and from the brief showing, there appear to be many other ways to interact with the game world.
There will surely be more to come in the months ahead, but Tear Away looked like another unique experience from Media Molecule.
