4A Games and Deep Silver shared a new cinematic preview of Metro Exodus during last night’s Game Awards, putting more focus on presenting the story of this new chapter, which offers a more open world experience, with players being able to explore vast areas on the surface. The video shows an explorer wandering through the streets of a desolated Russian city where the only living beings who are able to survive are animals mutated from radiation. Humans have come to terms with the fact that the world is dying, as the voice over suggests, but in this entry, the possibility of leaving the frozen city in search for a more adequate land opens by using the old trains.

The Metro videogame series is based on the books by Dmitry Glukhovsky, which depict a post-apocalyptic world in which the effects of a nuclear war has forced the remainig human survivors to hide beneath the surface, in the metro system of Moscow. Previous games Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light have allowed players to explore the different areas of the metro installations, but Exodus will put its main focus on the surface, introducing a whole new range of environments and, of course, monstruous mutants.

The game was officially presented at this year’s E3 with a gameplay trailer that showcased the use of different weapons in the new environments.

Metro Exodus will launch on Fall 2018 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Watch the new trailer below.
