Telltale and Mojang have just announced that Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2 is not only coming, but Episode 1 “Hero in Residence” will arrive on July 11th. Telltale’s first series in the Minecraft universe saw its final episode last September. Many expected a second season to come some time in the future, but the developer is known for waiting a while before following up on their games. That’s not happening here though, with the adventures of Jesse and all his/her friends continuing next month.
“Jesse’s tale didn’t end with merely becoming the world’s greatest living hero – if anything, life just got more complicated,” reads the announcement. “There are responsibilities! Emerging rivalries! Unmeetable expectations of friends new and old!”
Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2 will be available for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile platforms, limiting it more than its predecessor. Gamers have mostly shifted their play to these current consoles though, so it’s understandable that Telltale would shift things for this followup. The game is likely built on the updated engine that we’ve seen with Batman and The Walking Dead: A New Frontier.
What will Minecraft: Story Mode Season 2 – Episode 1 be about? It’s described as “As a simple treasure hunt goes wrong, trapping Jesse’s hand in a cursed prismarine gauntlet, we discover that maybe there are other downsides to fame, too – like having a dark and ancient power know your name. A new adventure beckons, sending Jesse on a quest to the darkest depths of the world – and beyond! Joined by a motley band of familiar faces, fortune hunters, sometime enemies and one deeply disobedient llama, there will be tough choices, peril aplenty and no shortage of People Who Will Remember That.”
A good portion of the original cast is making a return, including Patton Oswalt, Catherine Taber, and Ashley Johnson. More of the cast are expected to be announced as the game gets closer to release. And yes, the game will imports your save from Season 1 and will tailor the experience to the decisions that you made.
