This should come as no surprise, but Modern Warfare 3 has gone on to sell like gangbusters in its first week of sales.  Early reports suggest that the first person shooter is now the biggest video game launch of all time with 12 million units sold in the first week.  The first numbers suggest that the Xbox 360 has continued to prove most popular for Call of Duty players with the game selling nearly 60% on the console with 7 million copies sold.  The PlayStation 3 was close behind with nearly 5 million copies sold.

The PC version of the game didn’t do quite as well as its console counterparts and only made up a small sliver of retail sales, however these recent numbers don’t address whether digital sales were or were not included.  Being that the game has shown stronger yearly demand on the home consoles, its likely that the PC version sold much less than even the PS3 version.

Despite a rather smooth launch for the actual game, Call of Duty’s launch of the Elite Premium Service has been anything but smooth.  With one week gone by, Activision is still trying to stabilize the network with the large influx of users.
