Modern Warfare Remastered Update Adds Supply Drops & New Maps

Activision has released the final six maps for Modern Warfare Remastered with the latest update for the game. The remaining maps: Bloc, Countdown, Pipeline, Showdown, Strike, and Wet Work are available now, and a holiday-themed version of the Crash map called “Winter Crash” has been released as well.

While Winter Crash isn’t entirely new, this is the first time that the map has been released for consoles. Alongside the new maps, a couple of new camos have been made available that have a holiday theme as well. The “Gift Wrap” and “Ugly Sweater” weapon camos can be earned by completing challenges on the Winter Crash map. Activision also says that the Winter Crash map has “plenty of Easter Eggs.”

Female Soliders have also been added to the personalization and customization aspects of Modern Warfare Remastered — a first for any version of this game. While Modern Warfare, when originally released, didn’t have the customization options that newer releases now feature, Raven Software is obviously going back in to bolster this aspect of the game. Loot drops with additional weapon camos, reticles, uniforms, emblems, calling cards, and the aformentioned female characters will be made available via this latest update. The customization items that are now unlockable post-update can be crafted through a currency called parts, or obtained through supply drops.

That said, supply drops has been a point of contention for many players across the recent Call of Duty titles. Though these don’t sound quite as controversial as those found in Infinite Warfare, the supply drops in Modern Warfare Remastered are said to feature items that are cosmetic only and can be unlocked traditionally.

Attempting to diffuse any misplaced anger, Raven Software had this to say on the Call of Duty blog: “We want players to be engaged in for a long time. We’re excited to support this great game with new content, beginning today with a ton of new customization items that allow for a level of personalization that wasn’t possible in the original release in 2007. Personalization is a big part of Call of Duty and something we’ve done in the series for a while now that fans really enjoy. But of course, we’ve done it very carefully as our highest priority is to retain the balance, aesthetics and player silhouettes in the game.”

The Modern Warfare Remastered update is available now for all platforms. You can check out the trailer for the lastest update below:
