Moped rider tries desperate move to lose police during chase, and it’s straight out of Grand Theft Auto

He's respawning in prison.

A man riding a stolen moped tried to get away from London police by throwing his helmet at them during a chase. Police cameras on the motorbike recorded the whole thing, showing how the chase went through tight streets before officers finally caught him.

According to The Sun, the video shows the man on a moped with L-plates while a police officer on a motorcycle follows close behind. When the cop gets near him, the rider quickly pulls off his helmet and looks back. He then tosses the helmet at the police bike. It hits one of the mirrors and bounces off, but the officer keeps going.

The helmet trick didn’t work, so the man kept riding through the narrow streets in the London area. What he did looked like something straight out of Grand Theft Auto, where players throw things at cops to try and escape. But in real life, there’s no respawn button when you get caught.

He really thought he could get away

After the moped chase wasn’t working out, the man left the bike on the side of a small street and started running. The police got off their bikes and ran after him on foot. While he was running back to the main road, he threw a knife over a fence into someone’s yard.

Once he got rid of the knife, police were able to grab him and push him to the ground. They told him to put his hands behind his back. The Met Police posted the video online and said the man tried to escape on a stolen moped and even threw his helmet at officers while they were chasing him.

The post read: “A suspect attempted to escape on a stolen moped, even throwing a helmet at officers during the pursuit! When that failed, he abandoned the moped and discarded two knives over a wall, before being safely detained by officers. He was arrested, charged and sentenced to 15 months in prison.”

The Met Police also said they will keep working to stop crimes involving mopeds in London. They said they’re focused on dealing with moped crimes and making sure the streets stay safe. While this guy’s tricks didn’t work, a former FBI agent recently revealed what police are actually looking for during traffic stops.

After catching the suspect, two cops gave each other a fist bump like they had just completed a mission. Photos from after the chase show the moped and police bike both lying on the road. Police found and picked up both knives that the man had thrown away.
