Mother And Daughter Planned A Campground Murder Together, And Dash Cam Footage Caught The Moment It All Went Down

Family feud turns deadly.

A 60-year-old woman from Nevada is going to prison for 30 years because she helped her daughter murder her son-in-law. Rosalie Morris got her sentence on October 23 at a courthouse in Canyon County, Idaho. She has to stay in prison for at least 18 years before she can ask to get out early.

According to Court TV, Police arrested Morris in July 2024 because she helped her daughter, Melissa Calumpit, plan to kill Travis Calumpit. Travis was 37 years old and married to Melissa, but they were separated. Someone found Travis dead at Martin’s Landing Campground on July 12. He had been shot in the chest. After killing him, Morris and Melissa threw away the gun and Travis’s phone.

Police figured out what happened when they looked at dash cam video from cars parked at the campground. The video showed Morris’s 2003 Toyota Highlander pulling up to where Travis was waiting. When police showed her the video, Morris told them what really happened. She said that the day before the murder, on July 11, she had a meeting at her house in Nevada. Morris, Melissa, and two other people talked about how they could get rid of Travis “for good.”

They Didn’t Just Talk About It, They Actually Did It

Morris told police she was ready to kill Travis on July 12. She said she looked for a gun that wasn’t registered so no one could trace it back to her. At first, she was going to go to the campground by herself, but Melissa wanted to come along. Melissa later admitted she knew her mother was planning to kill Travis. She was the one who asked Travis to come meet her at the campground alone.

When Travis showed up, Morris stayed hidden in the campground bathroom while Melissa went to talk to him. Melissa kept changing her story when police asked her what happened. First, she said Travis attacked her. Then she said she hit him with a rock and shot him when he came after her. In another version of her story, she said Travis grabbed the gun and put a bullet in it himself.

Melissa said that after she shot Travis, he looked at her and asked “why?” She told police she said back to him, “I’m sorry. I love you,” and then ran away. She took the gun and Travis’s phone with her. Then she asked Morris to drive her to a place called CJ Strike Reservoir. While they were driving, Melissa threw the SIM card out the car window. When they got to the water, she threw the phone and the gun in. This case joins other tragic incidents where victims were discovered in remote outdoor locations

Melissa and Travis got married back in 2010 and had two kids together. But their marriage wasn’t going well. They got divorced in 2018, then got back together and married again in 2020. When police arrested Melissa, she told them she had moved out of their house in Parma in April. She said Travis was hurting their kids physically. She said she was planning to tell him on July 12 that she wanted to divorce him again.

Travis’s sister, Anna Norris, talked at the court hearing where Morris got sentenced. She said Travis was a good brother and uncle who his family really loved. “He didn’t deserve that. He should still be here with me and my family,” she said.

The judge, Randall Grove, said this was one of the worst crimes someone can do. Similar to other premeditated murder cases where suspects researched their crimes beforehand, Morris admitted to planning the killing in advance. The judge told Morris, “Your goal was essentially to treat Travis Calumpit like a dog – to put him down.”
