A California woman will spend 37 years to life behind bars for killing her wife with a sword. Weichien Huang was sentenced after a court found her guilty of murdering Chen Chen Fei and trying to kill her mother-in-law back in July 2024.
According to TMZ, the killing happened at their home in San Dimas during a fight about their divorce. According to prosecutors, Huang grabbed a katana sword that was kept in the house and stabbed her wife 13 times. When Fei’s mother walked into the room and saw what was happening, Huang went after her too.
Fei’s mother was able to grab the sword away from Huang and run out of the house. Video footage shows her limping down the street with the bloody weapon in her hands as she tried to flag down police officers for help. The sight of her carrying that blood-covered sword while trying to get away is one of the most disturbing parts of this whole tragedy.
Her words at the sentencing were powerful
Fei’s mother spoke at the sentencing hearing on Monday and shared how she felt about what happened. The Los Angeles Times reported that she called Huang a “vampire” who enjoyed seeing blood pour out of her daughter’s body. Her words showed just how terrible that day was and how much pain it has caused her.
Huang did not say anything during the sentencing. But she had told police before that she did not remember what happened when she killed her wife, similar to other cases where suspects have made questionable claims to investigators. The court did not buy her story and found her guilty anyway.
This case shows how dangerous things can get when couples are breaking up and having serious fights. Having a deadly weapon around made a bad situation much worse. Fei’s mother was brave to fight back and get away with the sword, which probably saved her own life.
Huang will now be in prison for at least 37 years because of what she did. Nothing can bring Fei back or take away the horrible memories her mother has from that day.
But the guilty verdict and prison sentence give the family at least some feeling that justice was done. The case adds to the complex history of violent crimes involving women, and it reminds everyone how fast arguments at home can turn deadly.
