New Resident Evil 2 Leon Kennedy Gameplay

More footage of Leon Kennedy and Ada Wong in Capcom’s upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake has come out today in the form of a new trailer. In it, fans can see some of the initial encounter between Wong and Kennedy and Kennedy’s transformation from cop to the extremely capable agent seen in Resident Evil 4 and beyond. There’s no sign of Clair Redfield this time around, but it’s very likely fans will be seeing more of her before the game releases in January.

As many know, Resident Evil 2 is semi-remake of the original game from 1998. It’s following the framework of that game, but Capcom is taking this opportunity to fill out the experience and give it its own feel. All the familiar beats are here: a T-Virus outbreak in Raccoon City, dual-protagonists Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, and the same supporting characters like Sherry Birkin and Police Chief Brian Irons. Differences are already becoming apparent though. A previous trailer showed a new confrontation between Clair and Brian Irons in the underground parking garage. Now again there appear to be differences; the confrontation with the gun store owner isn’t quite what it was in the original game.

While it might be a bit disappointing for some that Resident Evil 2 won’t follow its predecessor exactly, these extra wrinkles being introduced by Capcom are sure to make it more interesting for those who already know the original backwards and forwards. Hopefully this game goes over as well as fans and developer hope it will; that way, we’ll be able to see even more interesting twists in future Resident Evil remakes.

Resident Evil 2 launches for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on January 25, 2019.
