Respawn Entertainment, the makers of Titanfall, have announced a partnership with EA and Lucasfilm to develop a brand new game set in the Star Wars universe. The game is said to be a third-person action-adventure title, promising a vast departure from the FPS roots of the developer. Still, based on how excited the company is in their announcement, it seems like the property is in good hands with Respawn.

“I am happy to announce our partnership with Electronic Arts and Lucasfilm to deliver a whole new adventure to the galaxy,” said Stig Asmussen, whose previous work includes the God of War series.” For me, just typing these words is surreal. I have been playing Star Wars games my whole life, now I get to make a Star Wars game. On top of that, I get to do it at Respawn, a studio comprised of the most talented collection of game makers, creators, visionaries, and (most importantly) advocates for the player, that I have had the good fortune to work with. And we, like you all, have no shortage of Star Wars passion. The entire company erupted in cheers when it was announced that this would be our next endeavor.”

Very few details were shared about the actual Star Wars game that they will be producing. Given how early this whole thing is in the process though that makes sense. It seems like Respawn is just now hashing out exactly what their game will be, and how it will fit into the overall Star Wars universe.

The work that Respwn did on Titanfall should give fans a bit of a boost to their expectations. While the game might have dropped off many players’ radar after it was released, the actual experience was extremely fun and promised great things from the developer. With Titanfall 2 looking to be unveiled at E3 this year, it seems like Respawn is prepped to have a good set of games ready for the future.
