Ever since the release of the Wii U nearly two years ago, Nintendo has released system updates for the system, though none have compared to those on the other current-gen consoles in features. However, the latest implements something completely new with the soon to be released amiibo figures.
Yesterday, Nintendo released System Update 5.3.0, with the following changelog:
- Changes to System Settings:
- amiibo Settings has been added to System Settings. amiibo Settings allows users to register an amiibo owner and nickname, delete data written to an amiibo by supported software, or reset an amiibo
- Improvements to system stability and usability:
- Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience
As can be seen above, really the only major addition here is the support for amiibos, including the ability to register and adjust settings on them. The amiibos themselves will not be out for another week and a half, alongside Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, but the update is now out in the wild already.
Update 5.3.0 also improves the system stability in some ways, but no real details were given otherwise. This update will be received automatically if you have it set to do so on your console, so keep an eye out for it now to prepare for the launch of the amiibo next week.
