A woman in Florida hit a major problem when she tried to sell her car on Facebook Marketplace. A dealership wanted to buy it but pulled out after they found a fake mileage error on her Carfax report. The mistake wasn’t her fault at all.
According to Motor1, Deziree is a real estate agent and TikTok creator who goes by @saleenbitty351 online. She posted a video on November 12 explaining what happened. She listed her car for sale and a dealership quickly showed interest. They asked for her VIN number, and she sent it to them. But then they came back with bad news about a mileage problem on the Carfax report.
Deziree was shocked because she knew this couldn’t be true. Her car was still under warranty and had only been serviced at the official dealership. When she looked at the paperwork the dealer sent her, she found out the real problem. A company called Tire Choice had made the mistake.
Tire Choice mixed up her car with someone else’s vehicle
Tire Choice had accidentally linked her VIN to a different person’s car when they reported mileage information. This wrong data went into the system that Carfax uses for its reports. The other vehicle had been serviced at that Tire Choice location twice, but Deziree never owned it or went there.
This error created a serious problem for her sale. She needed to sell the car, but the Carfax report now showed a mileage discrepancy that made buyers suspicious. She called the Tire Choice store on the report, even though it was two hours away from her home. The person who answered confirmed they had made a mistake with the license plate and VIN.
The employee told her the service records were actually for a guy named Tony. Deziree said her name isn’t Tony, and neither is her husband’s. But the worker told her she would have to call Carfax herself to fix their mistake. She had to clean up someone else’s error that was costing her a sale. This frustrating experience mirrors how companies often make customers prove problems they didn’t create.
Mistakes like this happen more often than people think. Other viewers in the comments said oil change and tire shops frequently enter wrong license plates or VINs. One person said their friend who buys and sells cars sees this happen all the time with oil change companies. Facebook Marketplace users should stay alert, especially after other sellers lost thousands to scams on the platform.
Some people told Deziree to contact corporate or even get a lawyer to take action against the tire shop. “They used your warranty to repair another car. File a fraud claim,” one person commented.
But the main advice was to call Carfax directly. One commenter explained that Carfax requires the owner to verify ownership before they fix any errors. Deziree is now working to resolve the issue. She has all the documents and hopes to get it fixed soon. If you find an error on your Carfax report, you can request a correction through their online form with supporting documents.
