Nicki Minaj has stunned her fans by taking on a role in the Trump administration to speak out about what she calls an injustice close to her heart. The 42-year-old rapper from Trinidad has announced she will use her platform to raise awareness about claims of Christian persecution in Nigeria.
The Super Bass hitmaker has appeared on stage with US ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz in New York. The appearance was reportedly arranged by Alex Bruesewitz, an advisor to President Donald Trump. Minaj has shocked fans by accepting this role in the Trump administration, but what she’s doing is even more surprising to many who did not expect her to get involved in international religious freedom issues.
According to Unilad, the move comes as Trump claimed Nigeria is allowing the killing of Christians in the secular country. Nigeria’s population is split between Muslims at 53 percent and Christians at 45 percent. Trump has been under pressure from conservative Christian groups to label the West African nation a country of particular concern over alleged religious persecution.
This whole situation is more complicated than it seems
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has a different view of the situation. He insists that people across faiths are being killed in the country. Analysts say the causes are much more complex than religious persecution alone. They point to ethnic rivalries and disputes over land and water as contributing factors. Tinubu also maintains that Nigeria remains a democracy with constitutional guarantees of religious liberty.
Ambassador Waltz praised Minaj’s involvement in a post on X. “@NICKIMINAJ is not only arguably the greatest female recording artist, but also a principled individual who refuses to remain silent in the face of injustice,” he wrote.
The mom of one confirmed her involvement by responding to Waltz on social media. She wrote that she was so grateful to be entrusted with an opportunity of this magnitude and did not take it for granted. This comes as Trump threatened war against Nigeria and added another country to his target list.
However, not all fans are happy with her decision to work with the Trump administration. Some have dubbed the move as PR cosplay and accused her of cosying up to the Republican. One critic wrote: “Nicki Minaj you suck, you think Trump really wants to save Nigerians? You want to preserve your career of the little that is left of it for what? To teach young girls how to twerk? You are a loser.”
Another person said that an immigrant knows zero about Nigeria, has no Christian creds, and lives with a rapist husband while defending her rapist brother. She bullies victims, harasses online, and mocks deaths. Why her for this? Check her past, 7,000 Nigerian Christians deserve better.
One disgruntled person said it was laughable that Nicki Minaj, who has zero knowledge of the Nigerian political crisis and doesn’t understand Nigerian religious diversity, will speak on an issue based on baseless propaganda and written scripts handed over to her by white people. The rapper’s involvement in this issue follows other major military announcements from the Trump administration
