Nintendo had a great month in June, and with the release of the NPD data for July we see Nintendo continuing to top the charts with the Switch hardware and first-party software.

According to NPD, the Nintendo Switch was the top-selling hardware in terms of units sold and dollar sales, topping the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.  It was also a milestone month for Nintendo where they had the highest total unit sales since 2009.  Though the Nintendo Switch has been the top-selling system for two months now, the console is still behind the PlayStation 4 for 2018 in terms of sales.  The strong sales of the Switch pushed hardware sales higher as a whole when compared to a year ago.

On the software front, Nintendo had the majority of the top-10 selling games, including Octopath Traveler which was the top-selling game of the month.  Mario Kart 8 (3), Breath of the Wild (5), Super Mario Odyssey (7), and Mario Tennis Aces (10) were all in top-10 games of July 2018.  Needless to say, Nintendo was the top-selling publisher in terms of software.  Despite Nintendo’s strong showing in July, overall software sales were down year over year.
