With the holidays officially over, Media Create has revealed the sales numbers in Japan for the last week of 2017, in which unsurprisingly Nintendo Switch continued to lead the hardware chart, while its games also had a major presence in the software chart. All of this despite the fact that after the day of Christmas, hardware sales took a hit with all consoles selling less than the previous week.

For example Nintendo Switch lowered its numbers about half of the 269.684 it sold in the days leading up to Christmas, while PS4 had a much softer drop, although of course its numbers can’t compare to those of Nintendo’s hybrid console. As a curiosity, Nintendo Switch failed to surpass Wii U’s lifetime sales in its first year by only 16.508 units, while PS4 could not surpass its own 2016 numbers by just 7.850 sales.

Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe proved once again that they are the favourite titles for the Japanese public to purchase along with the console. The only relevant new release this week, Mario Party: The Top 100 for 3DS had to settle to debut at number 5, while the highest charting PS4 game was Earth Defense Force 5 at number 9.
