Nintendo Switch has returned to the top of the Japanese weekly charts according to Media Create, after a string of weeks in which PS4 and Nintendo 3DS took the number 1 place thanks to their new game releases. The promised increase of consoles available in stores is finally a reality thanks to the additional shipments of Splatoon 2 bundles.

On the other hand, Nintendo 3DS and PS4 also had a very positive week, thanks to the effect of Dragon Quest XI, which is still strong after the launch week. Square Enix’s RPG showed good numbers even after debuting with more than 2 million, and the drop is better than the usual 80% for games of the genre. By now the sum of physical shipments and digital sales exceeds 3 million, which makes clear that Dragon Quest is one of the few truly gigantic franchises left in Japan.

As for the new releases of this week, Great Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney 2 failed to impresse, and the Japanese public showed little love for Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, which is a drastically different situation to its performance in other markets. It seems like the audience that once made some entries of the series million sellers has moved on from the console world onto other platforms.
