Nintendo Switch has got a considerable boost in sales this week in Japan according to Media Create, thanks to a bigger shipment of new consoles that arrived to stores, making it easier to meet the huge demand in the country. Titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or 1-2 Switch increased their sales as well, thanks to the new owners that were getting games for their new console.
The 78.441 Nintendo Switch sold are a big improvement on the 49.913 from last week, and reinforce the idea that the console is enjoying an excellent reception among Japanese fans. The new console is now also the best selling hardware of the year so far, with 519.504 units sold since its release four weeks ago. By comparison, Sony’s PlayStation 4 has sold 482.732 so far this year, being now the second best selling hardware.
And if the numbers for Nintendo Switch are impressive, 3DS is also enjoying an excellent moment, riding on the momentum from last week’s Monster Hunter Double Cross release. Even with a successor on stores, the portable console managed to sell 39.359 units this week, which is close to the 30.733 PlayStation 4 sold, thanks to the long strike of exclusive releases that Sony’s console is enjoying lately.
As for the software list, in absence of new titles this week, it’s time for the previous releases to sell in the long term, which they did for all consoles. The Nintendo Switch games in particular benefited from the new console shipment, increasing its sales up to 40% in the case of 1-2 Switch. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild increased its numbers a 22%, which could be a sign that it’s poised to become one of the best selling recent titles in the series thanks to it’s nature as a launch title. PlayStation 4’s recent releases Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands, Horizon: Zero Dawn and Nier Automata also presented signs of long-term appeal, falling barely 30% in sales compared to last week.
