NPD reports are in for March 2016 and Sony’s PS4 console and Ubisoft’s The Division were the big winners last month. Software sales were up, but hardware sales are trending downwards compared to last year.

As reported by VentureBeat, the PS4 continues to be the top selling console hardware. A Sony representative commented on the success. “Thank you to our fans and partners for making PlayStation 4 the top-selling console and software sales leader for the month of March, as well as the number-one console for fans of The Division, according to NPD. We are truly humbled by the success and look forward to delivering more amazing gaming experiences throughout 2016, including the launch of PlayStation VR this October.”

Overall hardware sales were down mainly because nobody is buying PS Vita and 3DS consoles as much as they were last year. However, dollar sales have declined 19 percent while unit sales dropped by 17 percent compared to March 2015.

In terms of software sales, Tom Clancy’s The Division held the top spot. Software sales were up from last year thanks to Ubisoft’s popular shooter. It was also a big win for Ubisoft as Far Cry Primal came in second place.

It was also a good month for Nintendo because The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD was the third best selling game last month while Pokken Tournament came in seventh. EA Sports UFC 2 had to settle for fifth place as the older Grand Theft Auto V took the fourth spot.
