A few days ago we already heard from NPD that the Xbox One was the best selling console of October 2016. Now we get software sales results from Titanfall 2 and more.

As reported by VentureBeat, the top 10 selling video games of October 2016 were reported by NPD. It’s an interesting list and it’s surprising to see Titanfall 2 being so low on it.

Software top 10:

1) Battlefield 1
2) Mafia III
3) Gears of War 4
4) FIFA 17
5) NBA 2K17
6) The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
7) WWE 2K17
8) Civilization VI
9) Titanfall 2
10) Madden NFL 17

Digital sales were not included for Skyrim and Gears of War 4 so their placements could be even higher if they were counted. Bear in mind, the sequel to Titanfall came out on October 28th which may be a reason why it’s number 9 on the list. Although Skyrim is a remaster that also came out on October 28th and it’s still sold better.

Hopefully in the future, EA decides not to release two big games from the same genre simultaneously. The release date has really impacted on the sales of Titanfall 2.

It’s not surprising to see Battlefield 1 and Mafia 3 at the top. Battlefield 1 was marketed well by EA this year and reviews have been great. Mafia 3 may have had issues, but it’s one of 2K’s biggest franchises and people love playing GTA-style games.

Retail game sales as a whole were six percent higher than they were last year. This is a good sign going forward as we head into the Holiday season.
