Overwatch is all about its characters, who have quickly become favorites among gamers around the world. The colorful, interesting characters of Overwatch form the gameplay elements that make for the class-based shooting that has millions addicted, but they also just make people interested in knowing more about the universe. Today sees the introduction of Overwatch’s first new character since launch with Orisa, a tank class character.
“Orisa serves as the central anchor of her team, and defends her teammates from the frontline with a protective barrier,” reads the description from Blizzard. “She can attack from long range, fortify her own defenses, launch graviton charges to slow and move enemies, and deploy a Supercharger to boost the damage output of multiple allies at once.”
Orisa’s abilities are listed below…
Fusion Driver: Orisa’s automatic projectile cannon delivers sustained damage, but slows her movement while she fires it.
Fortify: Orisa temporarily reduces damage she takes, and cannot be affected by action-impairing effects.
Halt!:Â Orisa launches a graviton charge which she can detonate, slowing nearby enemies and pulling them towards the explosion.
Protective Barrier:Â Orisa throws out a stationary barrier that can protect her and her allies from enemy fire.
Supercharger:Â Orisa deploys a device to increase damage inflicted by allies within her line of sight.
We also already have an origin story for the character who is a one month old robot. “Originally put into service before the Omnic Crisis, the OR14 “Idina” line of security robots was built in Nigeria’s massive manufacturing omnium. After the war, they were taken out of production, along with many of the other models used during the crisis. Twenty years later, Numbani revived and recommissioned the OR14 program to protect the city from external threats. These new OR15s were deployed for a short time before they were destroyed in an attack by Doomfist.”
Overwatch’s Orisa is available now on the PTR and should roll out to the rest of the community some time soon.
