Sega just made all of their fans in the West extremely happy as they have announced that their Japan only RPG, Phantasy Star Online 2, is coming over the Pacific in 2020. Oh yeah, and it will be free-to-play as well.
Believe it or not, the game originally came out in Japan way back in 2012, and has had a dedicated fan base ever since. Despite this, Sega has been very mum on bringing it over to the States, until this very moment. In fact, since the first iteration of the Online series in 1999, the franchise has seen a slight resurgence of interest.
Getting the game free-to-play is also a huge bonus, as it makes it more accessible to incoming players. Whether their will be microtransactions or not for our version, just having it actually launch for our region is a very exciting moment for fans of the series. Sega has heard the call, and they’ve answered in droves. Phantasy Star Online 2 will officially launch in the West in Spring of 2020 for Xbox One and PC.
