EA’s Origin service hasn’t been a huge fan-favorite, but they continue making strides to improve that with programs like “On the House” and “Game Time“. Today marked the return of Game Time, which allows gamers to play the full, retail version of select Origin games for free for a set amount of time. This time they are bringing out the big guns with Battlefield 4which all Origin users will be able to play for a full week after downloading.

New recruits can now download Battlefield 4 to their Origin Game Library and get one full week of non-stop action

EA made the announcement via their blog saying “Origin Game Time is back! It’s time to team up with your friends in Battlefield 4. The massive first-person shooter has joined our Game Time program. New recruits can now download Battlefield 4 to their Origin Game Library and get one full week — that’s 168 hours — of non-stop action. All Origin users have until August 14 to add Battlefield 4 Game Time to their Origin Game Library.”

The wording here is a little tricky, so let me explain. From now until August 14th you will be able to download Battlefield 4 for free. Once it is downloaded and you start the game your “game time” has begun, giving you a full week of playtime. For example, if you download the game on August 14th before the promotion ends, then you get to play until August 21st.

It is also important to note that this is not a demo, or small section of the game. For your 168 hours of game time you will be able to access the full Battlefield 4 experience, including campaign and multiplayer. All of your progress is saved as normal too, so if you end up purchasing the game during, or even after the promotion then you will still be at the same rank and have the same unlocks.

As with any major rollout like this it will take a while for the online store to update. If you search for the game and cannot find it then just be patient and check again later. As EA points out, you have until 1pm on August 14th to play the game so a few hours won’t hurt.

While Battlefield 4 is available on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One this promotion is only available via EA’s PC Origin client.
