The final E3 2018 Press Conferences are upon us.  With Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft and Square Enix all having showed their wares it’s down to Sony and Nintendo.  Sony’s E3 Press Conference is said to be a little different this year and it’s unclear how many surprises there will actually be.

Sony has already said that they are shifting from their traditional format to go deeper on a smaller amount of games.  The ones that we’re likely to hear about are some of the biggest exclusives coming to the PlayStation 4 in 2018 and 2019.  They include The Last of Us Part II, Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima and more.

Will Sony stick to their script or do they have room to break big announcements of their own.  The floor is theirs starting at 9PM ET on June 11th, 2018.

Tune in for livestream on this page at the designated time or head to PlayStation.com for the event.

Check back later for highlights from the Sony E3 2018 Press Conference.

PlayStation E3 2018 Highlights

Sony definitely took a new direction with their E3 Press Conference in 2018. Instead of the packed auditorium from previous years, they’re shutting attendees to different room to talk about different games. Starting off with a recreation of one of the scenes in The Last of Us Part II.

The Last of Us Part II Gameplay Reveal

A new trailer for The Last of Us Part II was revealed that showed more of Naughty Dog’s upcoming sequel than we’ve seen before.  Moving from concept to actual gameplay, we get a glimpse of what the Last of Us  Part II will look like when it releases.  The gameplay sequence shows off Ellie fighting against a group of fighters that clearly outgun and outnumber her.  In the sequence Ellie moves from different cover, scavenges items, and uses stealth mechanics to stay out of sight until she can craft items to use in battle.

When The Last of Us Part II finally does release, it will certainly be one of the best looking games on the PlayStation 4.

New Game + Coming to God of War

During an intermission for the show, Shawn Layden confirmed that God of War will be getting a New Game + mode which is currently in development at Sony Santa Monica due to popular demand.  No release date was given for the feature.

Black Ops III Free on PlayStation Plus

In a surprise announcement Sony is giving away Call of Duty Black Ops 3 to PlayStation Plus subscribers as part of the Instant Games Collection.

Ghost of Tsushima Gameplay Reveal

The gameplay reveal for Ghost of Tsushima showcased an impressive look at the Japanese countryside where the main character rode horseback through a serene environment before encountering a combat sequence against multiple Mongols.  As expected the combat was all melee: Swords, shields, and spears.  The main character appears to be named Jin.  The lengthy gameplay sequence showed off fast paced melee combat, climbing elements, stealth attacks and other gameplay mechanics like killing enemies through cover.

The demonstration concluded on a lengthy one on one battle against another Samurai that turned against you during a mission to free a save a monk from Mongols.

A release date for the game was not revealed at the show.

Control

Remedy Entertainment’s next game was revealed at the PlayStation E3 2018 Press Conference.  Control was revealed for the first time and it looks a lot like their Xbox exclusive Quantum Break.  Despite being shown at Sony’s Press Conference, the game will be coming to Xbox One, PC and PlayStation 4.

Resident Evil 2 Remake

The long-awaited Resident Evil 2 remake is coming January 2019.

Kingdom Hearts III Pirates of the Caribbean Trailer

Death Stranding

After multiple years of Death Stranding teases we finally got to see what appears to be in-game footage that showed off some of the exploration elements of the game.  Of course there was also a healthy dose of beautiful cinematics.  It also included a look at the combat or gameplay elements of the game and it involved sneaking around with a type of radar that is seemingly powered by a baby.  The reveal of Death Stranding gameplay has left a fair amount of questions unanswered.

Nioh 2

A follow-up to 2017’s Nioh is in the works by Team Ninja.  Not much was shown about the game at it was not announced when to expect the sequel.

Spider-Man

An extended gameplay video of Spider-Man showed off a boss battle with Vulture, some combat, and the all-important web swinging mechanic of the game.  So far, Spider-Man from Insomniac is looking like it’s worthy of the name.
