Microsoft has shown their free games for September, now it’s Sony’s turn. This month’s selection is headlined by two heavy-hitters in the form of Destiny 2 and God of War III – Remastered. It’s hard to argue against trying something when it’s free, and now is a great time to be considering both of these games considering what’s been going on with their respective series’ lately.
While God of War III is a big deal in and of itself, Destiny 2 being freely available is a bit bigger. The game’s Forsaken expansion is just around the corner now, and it’s just undergone a major mechanical update. Players will also have the chance to try out the brand new “Gambit” PvP mode on September 1. Players who take advantage of this are only going to get to play the vanilla Destiny 2 content, but this is still the best chance to see what the game is all about without putting any money on the line.
On the other hand, fans brought in to the series by God of War 4 might be better-off spending their time with God of War III – Remastered. This is the game in which Kratos’ brings his quest for revenge home to Olympus and sets him up to become the man he is in the most recent God of War game. New fans of the series should go into it expecting a different kind of game though. The original God of War games are much more action-oriented and linear than God of War 4, and God of War IIIÂ is perhaps the most bombastic, fast-paced and visceral of them all. Keep that in mind, and it should still make for a very fun experience.
Additionally, PlayStation owners will also have their pick of the following:
- Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition (PS3, PS4 and Vita)
- QUBE Director’s Cut (PS3, PS4)
- Sparkle 2 (PS Vita, PS3 and PS4)
- Foul Play (PS Vita and PS4)
- Here they Lie (PS VR)
- Knowledge is Power (PlayLink)
Sony has been on a roll lately with their monthly free games. So, if neither of these are all that interesting, then there’s a good chance next month’s games will be. With so many major games releasing in October however, getting more free games might not be all that important.
