PlayStation TV (PS TV) Discontinued In Japan

The PlayStation TV (PS TV) device didn’t take off as well as Sony had hoped for. In Japan, the device has already been discontinued just over two years after it went on sale in Japan.

This was noted by a user on NeoGAF as the official Japanese PlayStation website posted that they are no longer shipping PlayStation TV units in Japan.

There’s no news about other countries yet, but the device never really caught on with casual buyers and gamers alike. This is because the device was not compatible with all PS Vita games and apps. Buyers had to check if certain games and apps actually worked for the device or not.

Not to mention the device only supported the expensive memory cards that were only compatible for the PlayStation TV and PS Vita. The only selling point for PSTV is that it had PS4 Remote Play and you could play PS Vita games on an actual TV screen.

There’s no news if the device will be discontinued soon in North America and/or Europe. However, it might only be a matter of time that support stops. Sony is slowly not even supporting the PS Vita either…
