Is Pokémon Coming to Nintendo Switch?

Pokémon very well may be coming to the Nintendo Switch if a new job listing from Game Freak is any indication.  The developer for Pokémon is looking for developers for a new console project where they’re looking for 3D CG designers that have experience working on the Wii U and PlayStation Vita.

The listing doesn’t mention Pokémon explicitly but does say the job is for a “globally popular RPG,” where work would entail creating “cartoon-like” monters and characters.  According to a translation from Silicon Era, the ad also indicates that the game is “popular on a global scale.”

As for when this game would come out, the contract work for developers would be until 2018.  So the game could come out sometime after, whatever it may be.

The obvious possibility is a Pokémon game for consoles.  It could be a massive hit for Nintendo with the Switch’s functionality as a home console and mobile device.  Game Freak’s resume is littered with Pokémon games as their main projects so a “globally popular RPG” for consoles seems like it could certainly be a Pokémon game.

No announcements have been made by Nintendo at this point, but don’t be surprised if the company does announce a Pokémon game for Nintendo Switch sometime in the future given the recent popularity of Sun and Moon and Pokémon GO.
