The first live-action Pokémon movie, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, is set to hit theaters this week on May 10. In celebration of the franchise’s milestone, Pokémon GO is planning an in-game event centered around the movie.
It was recently announced that Pokémon GO will be holding a Detective Pikachu-themed event from Tuesday, May 7 at 1:00pm PST/4:00pm EST to Friday, May 17 at 1:00pm PST/4:00pm EST. During this period of time, Pokémon that appear in the movie, such as Charizard, Aipom, and Jigglypuff, among many others, will appear more frequently in the wild and as Raid Bosses. Also, when you’re taking AR pictures with the GO Snapshot feature, there will be a chance that a Pikachu wearing a detective hat will photobomb the picture, allowing players to engage with and attempt to catch their own detective hat-wearing Pikachu.
Additionally, players will earn twice as much XP for successful catches as usual and Detective Pikachu-themed avatar clothing items, including a hat and a shirt, will become available to purchase from the game’s in-game store. There will also be new Field Research available that will be based around the movie, but what rewards players will be able to earn for completing this research has yet to be revealed.
