Square Enix has finally given more details on Project Octopath Traveler, one of the most interesting games that were presented along with the console earlier this year. Today not only the company has revealed more gameplay footage during the recent Nintendo Direct, it has also announced that the game will have a simultaneous worldwide release in 2018, with a demo launching on the eShop today, allowing players to gate a taste of the charming RPG earlier than expected.
Octopath Traveler receives its name from the special way to tell its main story, which comes determined by the choice of main character that players make at the start of the adventure. Each hero is defined by their unique role, which directly affects the way they perform in battles as well. The demo will allow players to try out Primrose the dancer, or Olberic the warrior. Each role represents a different ‘path’ to reach the story objectives, and a different eay to interact with other characters.
The other distinct feature of the game is its beautiful visual design, consisting on a mix of CG, pixel art, and ‘HD-2D’ visuals. It gives the impression of being a modernized version of the classic JRPG adventures from the 16 bits era, while retaining all the charm of those titles.
Project Octopath Traveler (working title) launches in 2018 for Nintendo Switch, while the demo will be up today. Check out the new trailers below.
